    Hi,

My financial advisor is pushing me towards Irish Life as a provider of an online trading account for my personal trades.

Is this the best option out there ? and is there any gotchas that I should be aware of ?

    Thanks,

    For stocks.

The price I have been quoted is 15 euro/trade.

that's news to me. I would love to hear more about it. What are the maintenance charges ? Are there inactive charges?

Irish Life and Standard Life have the facility to trade shares, bonds and ETFs online within a pension policy. You have to first set up a pension policy with either company and fund it with either a transfer from another pension plan or contributions or both.

You'll pay Irish Life or Standard Life in or around 1% of your funds per year for administering the pension policy. There may be other charges for setting the thing up - you'd have to ask your broker as they can vary depending on the type of pension plan.

Holding shares within a pension plan can be tax-efficient as you don't pay tax on dividend income, nor CGT on profitable sales. But don't forget the monies are in a pension plan so usual access rules apply as with any other pension plan.
