Employer Sick Pay Abatement

    Hello.
I recently received my payslip and noticed I was stop €188 as I was sick for three days in September with a dental issue.

I realise you need to fill out a form that is given to you that you send onto Social Welfare however I thought by having my initial medical note that the sick abatement wouldnt occur.

My question is that now it is after the deduction has occurred, can I still claim this amount back or does it need to be done prior to a deduction happening?

Will I need to get this form from my dentist with the dates I was absent?
    Thank You.

    No.

You do not get paid for the first 6 days of a bout of sickness.

Thanks myshirt. So to be clear the social wont pay cause it aint beyond six days and my employer has already docked this. So is there now no way of claiming ?

At the moment you will not receive payment for the first three days. From 6 January 2014 you will not receive payment for the first 6 days. http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/345_Illness-Benefit.aspx

Something that may be helpful for the future, depending on the type of employment you are in, if you are off sick, you can agree to work the time in at a later date which will prevent interruptions to your salary (assuming you are a salaried employee) and obviously its at the companies discretion.
