Not sure of pricing, but almost sure the AA or RAC will do it for a fee. Depends on if your willing to trust a internet mechanic or have some come back with a business entity.

Maybe give Brian Geary's a call to see if they know of someone who provides a pre-purchase inspection service in Limerick area. They're the Toyota Main Dealers in Limerick and I've found them very sound to deal with for any work I've got done or any queries I had.

The likes of an automotive assessor may provide this type of service. You could give McCloskey Dillon in Galway a call to see if they know who would provide this service in the Limerick area. They're a professional outfit and should know who their equivalent is in the Limerick area.

Yeah, I think the AA can do it but its saucy enough - bout 200 Euro. Problem with these car checks is you can get them done, then if something is wrong, your probably not going to buy the car, and then you are 200 Euro down straight away. And then if you got this done 2 or 3 times, it works out alot. But I suppose thats better than buying a lemon.

I only live 2 min down the road from there. It would take you exactly 2 hours from red cow roundabout to there. It motorway 99% of the way there.
I would be into my cars in the sense I'd know a clean and nice to drive car, but wouldn't have enough knowledge to go looking through the engine etc

Well the order there is the wrong way around, in my opinion. You should always check a car yourself first and then ask someone to professionally assess it. Anyone with a reasonable bit of driving experience will know if a car is fairly decent and drives ok, its the likes of subtle crash damage, respray, wheel / brake and engine issues that a professional will have a keener eye for.

Personally I'd take the 4 hours round trip to Limerick and look at it yourself, then get it professionally assessed if your interested. The cost of going down and back would probably equal the cost of an assessment anyway as you'd want to be giving someone at least €30 / €50 for their time. And at least you'll have seen the car yourself. A car might come back with a glowing assessment, but you still have to see and drive it yourself.

Chicken and egg really I suppose :pac:

I find it strange that they have three different prices, first they say it was €12,500,then its reduced to €6,900 and they have 7400 elsewhere, dont know what the car is worth but its the first time I have seen a car reduced to half price.

Yeah, that has me concerned. It seems like a very big drop in price and is making me suspicious - like you :)

And then they advertise this fact

I could just about believe it if it was someone private emigrating and wanted quick cash but I would be very wary of loan payments then.

Looks like the dealer put it up for a ridicules price and bragging about reduced price which would make me question their whole MO.

Bring a mechanic or mechanically gifted friend or owner will know he has you by the short and curleys

Do you see, this is the problem, I dont know a mechanic willing to take 5/6 hours to go to Limerick with me to do this. None of my friends are capable of doing this either

Dont get you, How would be have me by the short and curleys like ?

Basically,it their method of selling cars,it must have been massively overpriced in the first place and a dealer should know his prices,so you would wonder what it is all about,is he making a massive loss just to get rid of it or is there something wrong with it.

I would be inclined to say there would be plenty more autos going and they might be closer to you if you can hang on.

Just think their pricing is a bit strange for a car.

The ad is annoying, how the feck can he have it up one minute for 12,500 and next minute for 7,000. its annoying me now thinking of it.

But straight away, it raises suspicion, as you say, how can he afford to drop it so much, is the car fooked or did he make a balls of pricing it, if he was any good, he should know the prices in the first place.

Is there anything fookin straight forward about buying a bl00dy car - never easy !!!

I mean if the owner knows you are getting it mechanically inspected and knows the car is reasonably straight he will be very firm on price as he will know you are already 200e up the swanny and probably don't want to pay it twice with no guarantee next car will get a clean bill of health
