Just got meself a 3DS with 3D Marioland, NSMB2, Oscarina of time, Super paper sticker mario and animal crossing. There's a couple of other games I'm interested in like castlevania and resident evil but is there any point in going further back and pciking up some DS classics or have they aged too much?
    Any recommendations welcome.

Oh god no - one of the best things about the 3DS is the huge back catalogue of DS games.

If you like the look of the new 3DS Castlevania game, you'll go nuts over the 3 original DS games (Dawn of Sorrow/Order of Ecclesia/Portrait of Ruin).

Here is a good starting point for building a list:

Get all three castlevania games, they're all excellent and much better than the new castlevania. There's a ridiculous amount of great games on ds, the two zelda games, mario and luigi, elite beat agents, phoenix wright etc

If you liked the 3DS Mario titles then you should absolutely check out the some of the Mario DS titles too: Mario and Luigi Partner's in Time, Mario 64, Bowser's Inside Story, Super Princess Peach (which I absolutely loved!). NSMB DS is very, very similar to NSMB 2 for 3DS.

The Professor Layton games are amazing, and the Phoenix Wright games are definitely worth a go too.

Okamiden, Disgaea DS, Bangai-O Spirits, Plants Vs Zombies, Big Bang Mini, Pokemon Conquest and Kirby Superstar are, IMO awesome too.

Oh and if you can check out the Adventure Time game Hey Ice King Why'd You Steal Our Garbage which was probably my favourite game of the last year (and not just because I'm huuuugggee Adventure Time obsessive) and is very Zelda-II-esque.

The DS is full of amazing RPGs, the best being the Dragon Quest games, Etrian Odyssey series, Radiant Historia and Fire Emblem.

I wouldn't say one of the best, but it definitely surprised me how much I enjoyed it

Any DS game that isn't Elite Beat Agents (or Osu Tatake Ouendan) can't be the best DS game :)
