Can't sell car here, thinking of exporting it

I have a large engined car that I can't sell at the moment here in Ireland, as presumably nobody wants to pay the high road tax. So I had a look on autotrader UK and the asking prices are £7500 for my car. On donedeal and the likes they are going asking €5500, but they aernt shifting at that price.

Has anyone tried to sell their car in the UK? And if so, how did they go about it? I had a quick look at webuyanycar.com and they offered £6100 online for my car even though its an import, which obviously i'd take their hand off for! But it seems to good to be true. Has anyone gone down this road?

I have sold a couple of large engine specialist cars to UK and Germany - put the ad up on pistonheads and let the buyers do the paperwork although I did deliver one of the cars to the UK (yay! - roadtrip).

Had a supercharged Zed that probably wouldn't have sold for 12K here and it went to the UK for 16.5K and a Pajero Evo that you couldn't give away here which went to Germany for €8K.

Never thought of pistonheads. I'll put it up there at a cheaper price than the local cars. Although if webuyanycar.com offer what they quoted me I'd take that and save the hassle. They have branches up North so it would just be a case of driving it up there and getting rid. Or so I hope.

Is it an Irish reg? Webuyanycar wont buy it unless its a UK reg.

These webuyanycar type places will poke holes in your car and then knock money off the quoted price accordingly. Unless you live close to the border then it might be a wasted trip.

Remember you can now also get a chunk of cash back from revenue - vrt, if you export a car. You would have to get the car onto UK plates though to prove permanent export but that would also help with the sale in UK.

Worth checking, revenue keep the first €500 though which you wouldn't get back if you had to put it back on Irish plates

It's a lot of hassle for an Irish reg car on the off chance it'll be sold. Better off letting the buyer go through it.
