So recently our "trusty" diesel S40 has been quite on the heavy side with fuel.
I've had the car serviced on time, there are no leaks that I can see and the thermostat is working fine.
On a recent trip I was lucky if I got 600/650km from a tank and thats sitting at 120/130 on the motorway so no mixed driving.
Figures state the car should do closer to over 800/900km per tank.
Anyone have some ideas where else I could look?
I'm getting woefully tired of this problematic ****e every week

    Cheers

Oh and I should add that it is very smokey, turbo seals were leaking but I got the turbo reconditioned. I get a hell of a lot of black smoke too which to me signals an air problem within the engine or maybe a fuel problem.
I can't seem to find any evidence if the 2001 S40 has a DPF but I highly doubt it, my next thought is that the CAT could be possibly blocked.

At the last service, which was a full service, so about 2/3000 miles ago

Anyone know how to test for a blocked CAT? I believe I have 2 CATS in this engine
