So booked a flight to Newcastle on the new route and it's been ages since I flew with Aer Lingus.
I got a confirmation message with a booking ref number but it says "this is not a boarding pass"
Do I go to the T2 desk and they give me the boarding pass?
Sorry if I'm being dense here 😊

If you wish OP, you can check in online & select a seat 30hrs prior to take-off.

    http://www.aerlingus.com/travelinformation/traveladvice/web-check-in/

You'll then have the option to either print your boarding pass at home or pick it up at a self-service kiosk in T2. If you're checking in bags, you'll then queue to drop them off & have em tagged etc.

The BOD username made me chuckle btw. :)

    OP
you arent being dense, you are just too used to Ryanair which has the facility of being able to check in online long in advance as standard (normaly for a compulsory 6euro fee), whereas Aer lingus has an optional fee to checkin more than 30hours in advance - and free afterwards even if you do it at the airport at a machine or with a checkin clerk at a desk.
