Where to stay in Gran Canaria in November for beach, shopping and public transport

    Hey all

We're heading to Gran Canaria for a week at the end of this month. We just booked the flights with Ryanair on a whim (super-cheap) and really want to go there to spend a bit of time in the warmth.

Hoping for a very relaxed holiday, but would like to get a bit of clothes shopping done there too. We'll be relying on public transport to get around. Would like to do a fair few touristy things if possible, and definitely want to spend time on the beach (I think it should still be warm enough?).

We're not looking for fancy accommodation at all. As long as there's a bed and we don't have to share a bathroom, we're happy!

Don't know the area at all, so any advice would be brilliant.

    Thanks!

Las Palmas has a city beach, known as Las Canteras. There's plenty of accommodation to be had around there, and it's within walking distance of the shopping district. You can travel around Las Palmas on the city buses, and other services operate around the island(eg, down to Playa Del Ingles) :)

    Agree totally with FD2.

The local bus service around Las Palmas is wonderful. ( if you think you will use it much then buy a book of tickets in the kiosk in Parque Santa Catalina - think it makes any local journey 70c).

Most of the bus service around the rest of the island ( rather than LP ) is run by Global ( www.globalsu.es ? ) Their main bus station is underground in Parque San Telmo in LP. but they do have a less busy one ( once again underground ) in Parque Santa Catalina.

Global run a bus service direct from LP airport to San Telmo and then on to Santa Catalina.

Parque Santa Catalina is almost / kind of close to one end of Las Canteras

    ( Have a read of http://www.tripadvisor.ie/Attraction_Review-g187472-d592579-Reviews-Playa_de_Las_Canteras-Las_Palmas_de_Gran_Canaria_Gran_Canaria_Canary_Islands.html )

El Corte Inglés have their main ( and very fine ) department store nearby.
