Failing to yield?

I did a stupid thing tonight driving somewhere I didn't know where I was. I was at a yield, another car was coming from right. I thought he was going straight so I pulled out a bit and had to brake hard when he pulled in front of me and turned left. (Sorry if not clear!) Anyway the Gardai were sitting right there, and gave out to me. Am I expecting points or s summons!?? I looked it up - 2 points and a fine, will I get that in post? I don't really mind that but I hope they don't summons me. Would they usually ask for details or can they send you the points in the post like the speeding vans?

If they only gave you a bollocking and said nothing else to you, I'm sure you're fine.

If he took down your details in his notebook then expect fine and points.

If just verbal then most likely that's all it was a verbal warning.

He just made me roll down the window and told me what I did. I figure they usually ask for licence etc but I said sorry and they drove off. Totally my fault and if they gave me a penalty I'd accept it, but just worried in case it would be a summons, (i.e. for careless driving which I think is a cut above?).

I'd expect that if they were going to penalise you they would most likely have demanded your driving licence on the spot and noted its details. Sounds like you got off with just a rap on the knuckles.

If you never gave them details, chances are you're fine. I wouldn't worry about it if I was you in this case.

You got a bollocking window to window as far as I can see?
    Your grand man :)

Yes, and a big scowl. :D Thanks for the advice. I genuinely don'y mind if a letter comes - I was stupid as I didn't know where I was going. My only real concern was a summons but I did think they would need to stop me for that.

Yep they'd stop you and get your particulars, your home free I would think!
