    http://breakingnews.ie/ireland/sinn-fein-sent-copies-of-anglo-tapes-612366.html
A second set of secretly-recorded conversations of former Anglo Irish Bank chiefs has been sent to the Garda fraud squad.

The set of tapes was anonymously sent to Sinn Féin and the party has passed them on to detectives.

Officials in the Central Bank have also been given copies.

Sinn Féin’s finance spokesman Pearse Doherty said copies had also been retained with his own solicitor.

“On the advice of senior counsel, we have taken the decision not to release the tapes at this time,” Mr Doherty said.

“We have made them available to the gardai and the governor of the Central Bank.

“We have also retained a copy with my solicitor with a view to publishing them at a future date, as the publication of these secret conversations are in the public interest.”

A first set of tapes was leaked to the media earlier this year and exposed conversations between some of the most senior figures at the toxic lender during its dying days.

Some of those recordings, known as the Anglo Tapes, were also examined by gardaí and the Central Bank.

Two trials are pending in relation to the collapse of the bank.

Mr Doherty said the party will release the tapes at a later date because it believes their contents to be in the public interest.

He urged the Government to move speedily in setting up a banking inquiry.

“There is a public demand for truth,” he said.

“People want to know what was going within the banks and the contact between senior bankers and the Fianna Fáil government in the run up to the guarantee.

“It has always been my view that the Fianna Fáil government had more information in relation to the bank prior to the guarantee than they have previously disclosed.”

It had been expected that a Government-backed banking inquiry would not take place until other investigations involving Anglo senior officials are complete.

Previously leaked tapes included conversations among top bankers at the toxic lender as they prepared to secure an initial bailout.

The recordings indicated how senior figures planned to seek an initial €7bn bailout.

They suggested that the pot of money was enough to worry the regulator into acting but small enough to make sure it would not be allowed to collapse.

One recording outlined how bosses were ordered by former chief executive David Drumm, now based in the US, to go to the Central Bank with ”arms swinging” to demand ”moolah”.

Another revealed that head of treasury John Bowe claimed that regulators were ”effectively egging us on – for Irish banks to help each other”.

Sinn Féin's Mr Doherty confirmed the new tapes cover the period between February and September 2008.

It was that September when the then Fianna Fáil-Green Party coalition government brought in the €440bn bank guarantee.

The executives featured in the previously released tapes have denied any wrongdoing.

How much more damaging can these tapes be to the banks and by extension, the country? Why anonymously send them to SF? Something is amiss here, I think we will be hearing them before an election for some reason.

If they are in the public interest Pearse, why not release them now...

Perhaps the tapes are so damning that SF don't want to risk prejudicing a possible trial?

That thought crossed my mind, but if that was the purpose, then surely they would release the content? That would dominate the news for the next few days at least and bury and backlash from the recent IRA documentary...

Sinn Féin trying to deflect from this - Numbers up Gerry

I take it that Sinn Féin will now not object to the release of the Boston College tapes, and allow for the PSNI murder investigation to proceed unhindered?

Sinn Fein's dismissal of Boston College tapes is utter hypocrisy
SINN Fein is among the many individuals and groups who rightly argue that the contents of the Anglo Irish Bank Tapes, revealed by this newspaper, must be promptly and fully investigated. But the party is not at all as keen to see the contents of another set of tapes – the so-called Boston College tapes – examined and discussed.

The PSNI already have the tapes, they are useless.

The Part Deux bit is apt, no doubt Frank Drebbin will be assigned to the case and be told "there's no rush son."

Is anyone naive enough to think any Banker will ever get anything other than a pension?

Not sure why they were sent to SF, but at least they are in the Gardai's hands.

No idea what's on them but hope they can lead to convictions.

Wonder why there are two parts and these weren't included in the first batch?

SF have managed to take hypocrisy to a whole new level with this. They are demanding openness and honesty, trying to take the high moral ground, yet when someone questions their dear leader about his role in terrorism or his actions in relation to his child abusing brother, they shut up shop.

Yep, FF lite are actually starting to out-do their masters. Bertie Ahern or CJ wouldn't have had the neck to try and pull stuff like this.

Regardless, it doesn't matter who is bringing this up. The fact is, there are 2nd batch of tapes. People even in this thread are playing politics with it when it is to the benefit of this country to hear them.

    Next Government that's why.

My point related to the sheer hypocrisy of it all. Yabbering on that the public deserves to know the truth, yet they have no problem keeping the public in the dark when it comes to the truth about the past of some of their front bench.

The should quit this big act and join forces with FF. They are a match for them in terms of cute hoorism.

They have them but are no use for a court case, because the guys that recorded them have objected to them being released. The voices on the tapes need to be identified by the people who recorded them.

So will you ask for the same level of openness for the 33 victims of Dublin/Monaghan as you do for IRA victims? Our current Taoiseach was a memeber of the government who sent in the heavy gang to intimidate families when they asked questions.

the Anglo issue is seperate to SF's murky past and anyone who like Enda Kenny answers an economic question with Jean McConville is really of no use to this state.
