Has anyone ever complained to this lot about Bolands etc who consistently advertise their cars at one price and then state its the cash price with the actual retail price being significantly higher ?

I see someone complained about the Mordaunt Group

I dont see how advertising the cash price of a car is false advertising?

merely a discount for a cash customer I imagine.

Usually in the case of motor dealers the price shown on the window of the car is the price of the car. Some will offer a lower price where you pay "Cash" or to be more specific, where a trade-in of an old car or a credit arrangement with the garage finance company is not arranged.

You're right about the trade-in but wrong about the finance - it's a money maker for the garage.

Cheers Anan, yea that actually makes sense.... Not sure why i was told finance would make the price dearer...

A lot of people assume that a 'cash deal' means no finance, whereas it actually means no trade-in. It's an easy mistake to make. :)

Calling it "cash" is confusing as it makes people think you have to show up with a bag of money.

Anyone who thinks that a cash sale involves arriving at a dealership with ten grand in €50 bills really needs to stop and have a hard think about how daft that sounds!

I think what confuses people now is that for a long time when you went into a car dealer (certainly any one I went into) the sticker price was assuming a trade in, and there was usually a "discount" for a straight sale. Now the trend seems to be to have the sticker price assuming there is no trade in, the lowest price if you will, and for trade ins to incur a premium on top of that. So people still go in expecting to get a lower price for not having a trade in, only to be told that the sticker price is the lower price.

They can still have the lower price, if they can stomach a market value trade-in.
