That time of the year again, so shopping around looking for car insurance.

AIG seem to be giving decent quotes, not the cheapest but not bad has anyone had any dealings with them or had to make a claim etc.

What is their service like? Is it any good or is it a case of grab your money and run?

    Tox

i have just taken out a new policy with them for 328 euro for myself and the wife comprehensive cover protected no claims bonus and breakdown assistance. my renewal with 123.ie was E430 also in the event of a claim the access is lower than 123.

I've been with them a few years now (through a broker) and found the policy and options excellent (full comp, no claims protection, step-back, fully comp on other people's cars etc)

Service wise they're not bad but do sometimes need a little prodding to get things done like most Irish-run companies.

Sounds ok so far. Insurance is not up until the end of the month so I have a bit of time. I've gone onto a few other sites since their quote and it's fairly competitive.

I like the no admin fees and can transfer car insurance to another car for free (well up until end of December anyway!)

But it's too soon to make a decision yet and now I have a decent stick to beat my current insurers with to see if they will bring the price down a little :D

Interesting.. wasn't aware they plan to charge for that.

However, given the fully comp coverage on other cars you can get with them, is there any need to transfer really?

I was with them briefly, no particular issues.
Switched when I got a different car and their new car quote was a joke.

I know its a bit late to reply to your comment, but someone else may benefit from my reply so here goes ...

I had insurance with AIG and had to make a claim. It was awful !

I had to deal with some outsourced company in Northern Ireland that treated me terribly.
My car was a write off. AIG forced me to sell the crashed car on myself to a garage they gave me the name of, then they would not cover the purchase of a similar car. I am afraid the garage that bought my car may have fixed it up and put it back on the road. I assume putting write offs back on the road is both dangerous and illegal. But AIG are forcing their customers to sell the write offs !!!! It certainly felt all wrong to me at the time. I lost a fortune dealing with them. I would not use them again ever ! You have been warned.

Anyway that was my experience for what is is worth.

The definition of a write off can vary greatly.

An economical write off is where the insurance company deems it too expensive to repair the vehicle (usually greater than 30% or 40% of it's market value). This is not mean that the vehicle cannot be repaired though and put back on the road once it has been certified to be roadworthy again. Lots of these type of vehicles are repaired correctly, certified and put back on the road legally.

You then have the other type of write off where the vehicle is beyond repair, is not safe to repair and should be scrapped or dismantled.

The only thing remotely out of the ordinary in your scenario was them making you do the scrap selling.

That's standard. The insurer obtains the best price they can for the salvage, then you effectively 'sell' it directly to them

    Hello,
I am confused about, what a disk insurance do you present on the car front window, where can you get it and how does it look ?
The question is I have because they provide a policy insurance package with documentation about the policy without the disc
    Thanks for any reply

It's usually at the bottom of the certificate of insurance and you seperate it from main page. It should look like this...
