Jobseekers Confusion

I was on JSA for the first time over the Summer up until October when I took up a part time job to do maternity cover for 6 months finishing in at the end of March. I'm also likely to getting my next job which won't start until July. I will be looking for work to fill the gap obviously but as we all know, it can be unlikely. My question is, i'm 23, when I was on JSA, I received €144 a week on JSA. When I finish this contract, i'll be 24 and I was hoping my rate would be €188 when I finish. Due to the budget, does anyone know what my rate will be? €144 or €188

When you say part-time, does that mean you are still in receipt of JSA? Or did you sign off completely? If it is a new claim you will receive the new amount.

I signed off completely as I work Monday to Friday. I still have a medical card, that's about it. Would I definitely come under being a new claimant?

    JSA Budget 2014 Changes:
    Budget 2014

From 14 January 2014 people without children getting Jobseeker’s Allowance who are aged between 18 and 24 years will receive €100 per week. People without children getting Jobseeker’s Allowance aged 25 years will receive €144 a week. This weekly €144 rate will increase to €188 when they reach 26 years of age.

These new age-related reductions will only apply to new applicants. This means that people aged between 18 and 26 who are getting a higher rate before the Budget changes take effect can remain on that rate until they turn 26.

These reduced rates of Jobseeker’s Allowance will apply to people aged 25 and under who have exhausted their entitlement to Jobseeker’s Benefit.
From 1 January 2014 all new Back to Education Allowance (BTEA) participants aged under 26 who were getting a reduced age-related Jobseeker’s Allowance payment, will get a maximum BTEA rate of €160 per week (any means participants have will be deducted from this rate).

Currently, all Jobseeker's Allowance and Supplementary Welfare Allowance recipients, regardless of age, who have children receive a personal rate of €188 per week and an increase for a qualified adult, if applicable, of €124.80 plus qualified child increases. There are no changes to those arrangements.

The HSE care provision for people getting JA is also extended to age 24. So, for example, a person aged 20 who is in receipt of a rate of €188 because they were in the care of the HSE during their 17th year can remain on this rate up to age 24.
These provisions require legislation and are not yet in effect.

What was the gap between signing off and back on? If it's greater than a year it will be a new claim. If less than that, you'll go back to your old rate.

It will be less than a year. My question relates to the fact that pre-budget, I would be getting €188 once I turned 24 or once I signed back on. Now I am unsure will I be back on €144 or will I be getting €188 once I sign on again in March.

Pre budget you wouldn't get 188 until you turned 25. Post budget that's been extended to 26. What's changed is that if it's longer than a year since your last claim, it'll be a new claim and you'll get 100 until you turn 25.

So i'll continue on €144 until i'm 25? Thanks for the clarification
