Haven't been in a car before, is the only parking as listed on the site or can you still park more or less outside it??
Well be going midweek to avoid the madness!

Hmmm, bit of an underwhelming experience I thought today, more down to the grey Novemberday than the zoo itself I think, animals were really lethargic though and all were hidden as far back in their enclosures as they could get, regretted not bringing my binoculars. Glad they have the option to do it and theres enough vegetation for them and everything but I didnt really get a good view of anything apart from the hippo. It was all just a bit bland and washed out, I think it would be a nice walk on a hot day in the Summer though, the grounds are really nice and some of the animals are really fine specimens, if you have a small pair of binoculars definitely bring them though, kicking myself that I didnt think of them.

We were there today at about 1 o'clock and had almost the exact opposite experience. Most animals were roaming around, and the highlight was the silverback sitting beside the glass window. Thanks for the post OP.

Oh yeah that was pretty good alright, he was right at the glass, it was well worth the fiver definitely just more of a Summer activity than a Winter one.

I was there from 1 till 4 and I had a great time.
The big male lion was roaring, getting loads of attention, all the Tigers were up close to the Glass checking people out.
I did hit the Sea Lions/Giraffes and Rhion about feeding time so got a great view and a load info from the keepers.

Sounds like you were unlucky/bad timing tbh!

Thank You Mr Skywalker without you I would have never seen that update that the galaxy would not be safe.

    No problem :)
Thanks OP by the way - going to visit over the weekend.
I was there in first week of Dec last year. Was very cold and very quiet but found it a very enjoyable experience because no crowds etc. Most of the animals were out on display.
Alot of the other smaller shops/restaurants were closed but the 2 main restaurants and main shop just inside the gate were open.

Dublin Zoo has a schedule of daily activities with the animals, which if you follow, means you can see most of the animals up close and at their best, for example being feed or being trained. You also get lots of info from the staff at these times.

You can easily make your way around the zoo by following this schedule:

    http://www.dublinzoo.ie/32/Daily-Activities-amp-Talks.aspx

They even leave time in the schedule for lunch :)

So I brought the family to the zoo on Sunday using these tickets.
Still fairly busy for this time of year. Had great fun all round. Plenty of talks on - saw Elephant and Sea Lions getting fed etc.

The only problem we had was with the food - Meercat restaurant stops serving food at 3pm apparently and closes at 3:30pm.
Very small sign inside the door in tiny font saying this. We didnt see it at 2:45pm and obviously the 20 people in the queue behind us didnt either.
Very little and very poor quality food left - pizza and burger bar already closed and cleaned up so that must have been closed ages.
Tried to charge full price (€9.60) for grizzly piece of chicken with about 10 chips (no veg/no full portion as very little left).
Needless to say we didnt pay full price.

Noticed alot of people around the zoo with kids and they all had packed lunches. I think we will be doing this next time :)
Zoo is open until 5.30 or something so dont know why they need to close the restaurant so early. They could have fed another 50 people I reckon - they were still coming in the door after 3:30 when we left.
Oh and the staff are not very friendly either. They were washing the floor around us and boxed us in with chairs - I basically had to kick 3 lines of chairs out of my way to get through with heavy double buggy.

Apart from that - the zoo is great and the kids will love it - even at this time of the year.

Weather is fantastic, you got cut-price entry, you did not pay for over-priced food. Be happy!

We were at the zoo on sunday also - it closed at 4.30 although we were kicked out by 4.15.

Hadn't a clue it closed this early in the winter months - I know it closed earlier than summer, but it was still really bright at 4/15.

We didn't get into the african plains, having decided we would have a quick look at the lions first (they are now on the left as you enter the zoo, much closer to the entrance), but the keepers asked us to start heading towards the exit at four, and we didn't get back.

    Good day out though.

I had a great day there sunday, no complaints.
I wonder if they will do this again in January when they will have another quite month.....

I went to the Zoo on this offer on Saturday with my mate and his kids. Had a great day. Spent about 4 hours there and got to see everything (except the Elephants :( )

As I was passing the coffee shop outside the zoo seen this polish family having a picnic.

Not seen a Irish family having a picnic like that since the 80s.

Are we to afraid what people will think of us these days,

Have to say I saw a lot of resturants bloody hell so many reminded me of universal studios in Hollywood.

More resturants then there was animals.

back in the day it was just that woooden building in the middle of the zoo that did food an even that now is closed.

yes the food in the zoo is pretty basic and not that nice , but a short drive up the parks main road to farmleigh house and the cafe there or to the walled kitchen gardens and the cafe at ashtown castle and you will find some lovely food and all home made too .
