Walking from Ballymount to Red Cow junction on M50

Can you walk beside the tram line from the above junctions?
Google suggests a 5 km route along turnpike rd and then northeast to be able to cross the Naas rd

no you cannot there is no path for it.

There is a path on the city bound side of the luas tracks at the red cow interchange which feeds into the foot bridge at the red cow hotel and allows you to cross to both sides!

I am confident enough the OP was talking about the western side of the M50 where the Ballymount (kingswood side) Junction meets up with the Red Cow Luas Depot. This area the two trams pass each other and there is no pedestrian pathway.

Cheers...depending on where OP is coming from it'd nearly be easier/faster (not cheaper though) to get Luas for 1 stop and walk!

Turn right at the end of the Turnpike Road (towards the Red Cow Hotel) and there's a footbridge which puts you either on the far side of the Naas Road (city bound) or else lets you walk down onto a path that goes along the Luas line to the Red Cow stop. I used to work close to where you are going (I live close to the Red Cow stop) and it doesn't take long to walk to and from.

Yeah, walk down Ballymount Road to Turnpike Road to the Red Cow and across the bridge. It is a good 20-25 minutes walk to the stop though, it's deceptively far. I live very close to where you're starting from. You could also get a 56A bus + two minute walk to Kylemore Luas stop if you time it right.

Definitely wouldn't recommend beside the tram line or long the tram line, that stretch from Kingswood to Red Cow is the one place on the entire line where the trams can get up to speed.

If it is of interest, there are a bunch of bus services on Greenhills Road between Tallaght and the city.

It's an extremely short walk; as Victor says it's just up one ramp and down another - the bridge is pretty much in front of you when you turn the corner to go towards the Red Cow Hotel. The alternative is to basically walk out into, at times, very fast moving traffic and take the risks associated with that. I did that walk for over a year and believe me, the couple of minutes it takes to go up and down the bridge far outweighs the risk attached to any short cut. Although I did see people regularly taking short cuts (and still do) this so not everyone will agree with me on this!
