From the Irish Roller Derby Association:

    4 November 2013

The Irish Roller Derby Association is pleased to announce the national coaching appointments for Team Ireland for a two year term which will see Team Ireland take part in the Blood and Thunder World Cup 2014 in Dallas, Texas. These appointments are the result of IRDA member leagues voting throughout Ireland.

Anthea Hall (Sinister Mary Clarence) of London Roller Girls will be Head Coach for Team Ireland. Sinister Mary Clarence has played Roller Derby for over five years, captained the Brawl Saints on their three year unbeaten run, captained the Ultraviolent Femmes and Team Ireland at the last World Cup. Sinister Mary Clarence is currently the Team Coach and Line-Up Manager for the Brawl Saints, the number two ranked team in Europe and is a back-up bench coach for London Brawling. She also acts as League Director for London Roller Girls and runs the London Roller Girls recreational league.

The role of Assistant Coach will be filled by Christine O’ Connor (Kitty Cadaver) of Dublin Roller Derby. Kitty has played Roller Derby since October 2009 and is currently co-captain of the DRD A Travel Team. Dublin Roller Derby was recently announced as the first Irish WFTDA Apprentice League. Kitty represented Ireland in the 2011 Blood and Thunder World Cup and has being involved in Dublin Roller Derby’s coaching Committee since 2009.

The role of Line up manager for Team Ireland will be filled by Brighid Golden (Belle Igerent). Belle Igerent is currently the head of referee training with Limerick Roller Derby. She has been involved in Roller Derby for 2 years and has bouted for both Limerick Roller Girls and Birmingham Blitz Dames. In January 2013 Belle Igerent switched her focus solely to refereeing. She has been trained by WFTDA certified referees in Birmingham and returned home to the Limerick Roller Girls at the end of August 2013.

We at the IRDA wish all the newly appointed Coaches and Line-Up Manager to the Irish squad the very best of luck in their roles. We know that you will show the world that the Emerald Isle is now a roller force to be reckoned with.
