2006 VW Passat Key Fob Problem

Hi my key fob is giving me some grief as of today. The key starts the engine no bother it just one of the push buttons has stopped working today. The button that locks the car and the button that opens the boot works perfectly but the button that opens the car does not work. I've also noticed that the little red light that usually flashes on the key fob and also stopped flashing. I've changed the battery but the issue is still the same as above.

Any ideas what the problem could be?
Can it be repaired and if so where?
    Think a new key is €260 :-(

Have you tried resetting it ? Cant remember the exact procedure - its in the manual - but involved manually locking/unlocking the doors with the spare key (the pull out one in the fob itself) and then starting the car
