€0.11 of my taxes from €30,000 salary goes on 'Irish Secret Service'?

    WTF?

Ha ha I earn more than you! [/Nelson]

Less frivolously, I think its used for surveillance of dissidents, etc

Yawn, this has come up in the tabloids at budget time every year for the last 15 years. The vote (budget provision) is about a million quid. In 2010 they only spent 700,000 of that. Thats about 10 mid level salaries in the public service or in other words, a nameplate on a door that co-ordinates some information from the Garda and the Defence Forces about a few crackpots

To put it in context, the Guards spend about €1.6 billion and the Defence Forces just under a billion, so the 'secret service' whatever it is, is teabag and pencils money. Dont lose any sleep over it, your tax euro is being wasted in many far more apparent and important ways.

    Locked that door yet?

Outsource it to the Yanks, they are fierce handy at surveillance so I hear.

Actually we have two, the army runs a second secret service.

The Irish Secret Service would be so inept that the NSA wouldn't even consider putting them under surveillance.

The money is left in a bin in phoenix park every year.

The budget shrank last year as those new smaller bins are in use there now.

No they don't. They have an intelligence service, G2. The Gardaí oxymoronically also have an intelligence service.

Yes we do. And funnily enough there were entries on wikileaks relating to its operation and even its controversial covert mission statement
    2009
...the internal mission statement of Irish Secret Service differs from public mandate...

    1. Spy on GAA players
    2. ???
    3. Profit

Also of interest was OPERATION LIFE OF BRIAN
The ISS have 'catacombs' full of information on television personality [sic] Brian Ormond. The service were fearful of Ormond's rise through the hierarchy at the national broadcaster, citing his 'clearly psychopathic demeanor' and 'insatiable appetite for control and self-flagellation' as reasons to believe he may just be 'the Hitler of our time...'

No, we don't. They just want us to think we do. That money actually goes to paying the tab in the Daíl bar.

Imagine if you worked for the secret service and that 11 cents from your salary goes to pay for the salary of the fat cunt who sits beside you and who eats all the nice chocolates out the Roses tin each Christmas.

    : You don't actually think they spend $20,000 on a hammer, $30,000 on a toilet ...

You don't think all that money our government wastes is really wasted do you ??

The evoting machines paid for a new listening post on Rockall.
