ROM installs for Samsung Galaxy S3

Following up from this thread: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057073595&page=2

Fellow boards member, DECEIFER, has been great so far in providing me information on ROMs as I am buying a Samsung S3 today.

Are there any people here with pure Android ROMs on their S3 and what were the key differences in the stock Android and the installed ROM? I assume its mostly advantageous in comparison to the stock Android but are there any things that the stock had that was better than what the ROM has? DECEIFER has mentioned the camera feature being better on the stock but i don't really care about the camera too much.

Any further advice and personal experiences would be very grateful

This a hard question as there are so many 'stock' roms available and each will have it's own plus and minus points. Best advice I can give is to do your research and decide what features are important. XDA forums are a wealth of information if a bit overwhelming sometimes.

I have no experience with S3 roms but have used a fair few on my Note 2 and always go back to AOKP as the 'stock' android plus their tweaks and extras just work well for me. AOKP have their own site these days... http://aokp.co/

Maybe I'm unusual..but first thing I do with any new android device I get is unlock, root and custom rom it. Only got my Nexus 10 yesterday and it's already done :D

I've gone from the Samsung stock (Touchwiz), to cyanogenmod, to omegarom (based on samsung) and now back to cyanogenmod.

both omega and cm are less bloated and seem faster that the original samsung.

My dock doesn't work with Cyanogen, esp. the HDMI out and probably never will, but I don't use it that often (at all!) so not too much of a pain, I've a Nandroid backup of and Omegarom where it was working so I'll' just restore that if I ever need it and change back after.

I miss some of the samsung apps, S-Memo and the calendar, but prefer the feel of CM, probably because I've been with it since v4 and too lazy to get familiar with anything else! With Omega I also felt like I was missing out because all the development was with Android 4.1.

Omega Roms tend to be about 900MB download, Cyanogen about 180MB
