Don't see too many of these raids anymore, or else they don't make the news. It's all grow factories these days I suppose.

When I was a kid working in a supermarket in Co Cavan. You could always spot the poitin men. They'd come in looking for 2 stone of sugar!

If RTÉ had any sense now they'd make a new breaking bad type series around this.
Can you imagine Breaking Bad mixed in with Glenroe!? A definite winner.

Making poitin in a green post van down the bog. Could be a hit?

Poitin is nearly always sterile anyway.

My Da used to have two big bottles of it that I used to slowly sneak drinks out of and water the rest down down

It was great because you didn;t need much of it and could get a lot of water back into the hoor and it would still remain potent enough to deflect suspicion.

Have to say, we’re quickly approaching the year 2014, is a Poitin distillery really all that bad in this day and age, considering the muck that’s being manufactured, sold and destroying lives in this country?

I mean, there’s a shop in Liffey Valley that just sells Yankee Candles.

    Call it Making Mad-stuff.

William White is a Secondary School Biology teacher and lives in a house in negative equity in Clondalkin with his wife, Mary and their son Patrick. Patrick is on disability but he has just lost his medical card. William is furious about this. William has also just discovered he has prostate cancer and his days are numbered. IN a recent austerity budget the Government put up duty on spirits and everyone is giving out about it. William hatches a plan to start distilling his own spirit and selling it around town. Hilarity then ensues.

Is there stuff for sale in Duty Frees or off licence marked as traditional irish poitin? Think i saw it somewhere.

It wouldnt carry the same Russian Roulette quality as the illegal hooch. Always fun to be left in the dark as to if you are going to be blinded or killed by it.
