    Hi Guys,

Can anyone help me with this. I am 6 months into a 2year contract with Vodafone and can no longer afford the bill. Is there anyway of getting out of it without paying the €1000.00 cancelation fee they want.

You're locked into a contract and they have a cancellation fee attached.

You should have known these terms and conditions and moreover your financial stability for the forthcoming two years before initiating yourself into a legally binding agreement.

Whatever you do, don't dare blame the provider.

I think after 6 months with certain companies you can change your plan. I could be wrong though, but i thought i seen it some where before. No harm in giving them a call and seeing is there anything they can do for you. I wouldn't say they will let you out of your contract, but they might be able to lower your plan slightly for you.

If smugness was legal tender, he could buy the company with this post, let alone pay off his bill.

Well if I could see into the future where I lost my job do you think I would have signed a contract

Did you ring them up OP and ask if they can do anything for you?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4 DCALS

I rang them and sent emails. They say try get someone to take the contract on which is the first I ever heard of that. I was told then to sell the handset and pay the money off the fee but I will get nowhere near that for the phone.

Maybe try and negotiate a lower tariff or something. The main thing is that they want to keep sponging money out of you, not matter what. They probably have you hooked in.

Or give it to someone very close who you trust who would use it and pay the contract without ringing Cuban sex lines twenty four hours a day and leave you totally shafted.

If the powers that be that run the country cant even get this part right what hope have the rest of us??

What are these like? I usually use Bolivian and Botwanan sex lines. Maybe I should shake things up a little and try some Cuban?

is it too early in the thread to suggest paying in sex??

How much is the contract each month? 18 months left means the 1000eur works out over 50 a month. If it's a good phone and you're stuck sell it for as much as you can and put that in a separate account and use it to pay the monthly bills. Hopefully by the time the fund runs out you will have a new job and can afford the payments again.

If that were true then on what basis have we the right to complain?

If you're more than 6 months into your contract you should have the option of going on a lower plan and running out the remaining contract at a cheaper rate, that's pretty standard practice.

i can't understand why people go with contract unless they use their phones as a business line

Cheaper handset, no topping up. Some people shouldn't be left near a billphone contract though, no responsibility for their own usage and blame the network for "letting" them run up a huge bill, see it every day without fail. "It's your fault I ran up a huge bill I knew I couldn't afford", course it is. It's people like the OP who's circumstances change I feel bad for, the dopes than run up phone bills into the hundreds and thousands and then don't think they should have to pay for them not so much.

I looked into doing this online with VF recently, however just before I hit submit, I noticed a line saying that this would reset the contract length to 24 months.

I was looking to do it for a similar reason to the OP, want to move network and was looking to reduce the buy-out cost as low as possible. Maybe it varies from network to network, but just be wary of that first.

By the sounds of the contract, it's a high-end phone.

Sell it on somewhere like adverts - and get a cheap one to tide you until things pick up - and put the balance of the outstanding contract. Then try and get on to a lower tariff.

It won't clear the debt but it will make a difference and they'll know that you're serious about clearing the debt.

As pointed out, this should have been in a different forum, but since the OP has closed their account, the point is moot.
