Question on the driving test

Heard a story the other night which I'm not sure is true or not so looking to get the opinion of boardsies.

A sisters friend was apparently doing her driving test and when it came to the reverse around the corner she refused on the basis that it's an illegal maneuver and she wasn't going to break the rules of the road. The tester told her it's part of the test, she has to do it to which she replied but it's breaking the rules of the road so the test is invalid.

Anyway needles to say she was failed on the basis that she wouldn't complete her full test. Everything up to that point had apparently been perfect. Well story takes a twist in that I hear she challenged it, to what level I'm not sure, but won and was awarded a passed test and as such a full license.

So the question is. Is that an illegal maneuver and a breach of the rules of the road? If so and it was successfully challenged providing above story is true surely that should have set a precedent and said move should be removed from the driving test?

Wasn't aware of it being an "illegal maneuver". I believe it's against the law to reverse around onto a main road. Sounds like a bit of a weird story.

As the other posters said it's illegal to reverse from a minor road to a major road but the reverse in a test is usually in a housing estate. Your sisters friend got her rotr wrong and should of completed the manouvre full stop.

It is perfectly legal to reverse onto a side road as part of the driving test.
That twist at the end never happened. Even if someone successfully challenged a driving test for something else. The best they get is a retest.

Your sister's friend is telling fibs I'm afraid - they can't award a license off a challenge

Pure chancer. She should have just gotten on and done the maneuver. Waste of €80.
