Pretty. Expensive. Control layout does not make sense for a digital camera at all, IMO. I like to be able to adjust exposure compensation, ISO, etc., without taking my eye away from the viewfinder. To me the DF would be a backwards step. I guess that's the point though?

    Damn, it is pretty though...

Looks really nice. Price tag is pretty steep.

I'm going to be in a minority but I really dislike the look of it due to the triangular section on the top. It just looks wrong to me and completly ruins the overall look

The pentaprism housing? That's the best part!

You're not in the target audience then. The target audience is people who look at that and gaze fondly at the FM they have in their press. Or, in my case, start gently caressing the smooth pentaprism housing of the FE-2 that's sitting in my bag at the moment. Unfortunately the price rules it out because I'm sitting there thinking ... "Nikon DF" ... or "new FM3A and about 10 years worth of film and development" and stumping, obviously, for option 2.

they missed a trick in putting an LCD on the back. they should have left that out, and limited the camera to 36 exposures per battery charge. i'd have bought it then.

Actually designy wise the top deck is pretty good, overall it's too thick, the handgrip is a bit ewww but the back is just godawful. They jammed far too many dials and turny things and buttons and doodads and widgets in there. Should have stuck with a touchscreen that you could flip around and the AF point selector. Or even left that off as well.

I rather use my old F301 :( yes its nice piece of equipment but you have to get real, cant afford to spend that much on nostalgia. In saying that looking forward at sample pictures, maybe I am missing something?

Holy Crap that's crazy. Make that "New FM3A AND a new F6 and 10 years worth of film and development" :D

I love the housing on the old model, I used to have one. The DF housing has completely different geometry and angles.

Not exact same angles of view but clearly shown here279229.jpg

What makes you think you'll have to take your eye away? Once you learn which dial is which, when you rotate them the display in the viewfinder will change too, just like it currently does. So changing ISO/exposure comp will be easier because you won't need to hold down the ISO/EC button and turn the command dial, you'll just need to turn the ISO/EC wheel :pac:

There's the advantage as well, as with my ageing F4, that you immediately know what the camera is set to WRT Aperture*/Shutter speed/ISO/EXP+/- Just by glancing at it, even when it's turned off . I find that invaluable.

*At least when you're using a non-G lens and using the aperture ring on the lens to control aperture

....and, manual focus, and prohibited user from changing ISO unless they
-Pressed the button at the base
    - rewound the rewind crank
    - opened the back
    ....

Correct me where I am wrong here but my biggest gripe against the DF is that its MORE expensive than the D610 and the D800 and a worse camera!

Its mind bogglingly expensive for what it is
