I only heard of the beauty advent calendars this year and am really looking forward to trying one. Has anyone tried them before? I'm trying to decide between the You Beauty, Benefit, and Boots ones. I don't want to look at the product listings as I like the idea of not knowing what's inside.

Benefit one cannot be gotten anywhere!

The benefit one looked really good but sold out within minutes...leaving a lot of many unhappy benefiters according to the comments on their FB page.
I like the look of the 'you beauty ' one myself. A lot of the products are similar to the brands in subscription boxes like Glossybox and I already subscribe to them.

I think Lancôme does them also!

I emailed benefit. They're expecting it back in stock on the website in about 2 weeks. It's much cheaper as well. Only $68 instead of €75 here. I love there stuff but it's very over priced here.

I just ordered the You Beauty one. I like the idea of trying out some different products rather than just the one brand. I know I already like Benefit! Gave me an excuse to use my Parcel Motel account too. I've had it for months without any need for it.

Going to get the boots one I think! Some of the comments on the benefit fb are a joke, people need to get a grip, boycotting a brand cause they didn't manage to snag a calender, even though they sold out in 35seconds?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,029 ✭✭✭SusieBlue

I just tried to order the Benefit one online and its letting me proceed to checkout, not sure if its actually sold out or not?!

Just had a look there. That's mental. There are people actually blaming Benefit for the fact that some of the advent calendars ended up on eBay.

I saw a Ciate nail polish advent calendar on Look Fantastic or one of those sites recently but I can't find it now.

The Boots one seems to be the most reasonably priced. I was worried it would have a lot of No.7 products in it though. I really don't like them and I don't want to look at the contents before I get it.

The Boots one looks to be out of stock.. according to the website :(

It was in stock up until last night. They'll surely get more in. It seems to be selling really well. They might still have some in store.

They had the ciate one for 50 euro in Millies at the weekend,.....I was drooling over it!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,115 ✭✭✭Whiplashy

Anyone hoping to pick up the Benefit one, the email they sent me said it will be back in stock by the 18th November. Just keep checking the site. At the moment there's some sort of glitch on the website. It's allowing you to press the buy me button but the transaction can't be completed as there's no stock.

I'd love to pick up the Benefit one but I doubt I'll be lucky enough! I'll keep checking the site I guess. The Boots one looks tempting alright.

if you are interested to know what was in the Benefit Advent Calendar, here is a link to a post with pictures: http://totalmakeupaddict.blogspot.ie/2013/11/benefit-advent-calendar-countdown-to.html

Incidentally, I was offered 2 advent calendars in Debenhams on Henry Street on Saturday!

Where are those comments, I can't see them?? Why are people angry? All they had to do was call benefit last week and put their names down?! That's what I did and collected mine Saturday no problem!

The Ciate one is for sale in Arnotts for 55 euro.

I bought it last year and it was amazing! So many great colours and 4 bottles of the beads included as well. It was very exciting opening all the little flaps.

The Benefit one looked great but seriously people have lost the plot over it. It's very sad when you're angry that you couldn't buy a beauty product.

I have to have a beauty advent calendar this year. Keeping my eyes peeled! I think this - http://www.youbeautydiscovery.co.uk/you-advent-calendar/ - looks amazing!

There's a much better selection than I was expecting in it. I might pop in to my local Boots tomorrow and pick one up for my mum if there's any left.

Anyone looking to get the Boots calendar, I can confirm there's no stock left in Kilkenny.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28 schuey2me

Theres also none in the sligo boots.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 622 ✭✭✭greenbicycle

I have rang all the boots near me in dublin and none of them have even heard of the boots advent calendar! Tried nutgrove and dundrum and dun laoghaire.

Has anyone gotten one in dublin at all?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,115 ✭✭✭Whiplashy

The Benefit calendar is back in stock on the American website. How do I know? Because I just successfully purchased it! :o Two beauty advent calendars to look forward to now. Advent is going to be more exciting than Christmas! After I ordered the You Beauty one I looked up the contents of the others to see what I was missing. There are three dodgy things in the Benefit but it's still a relatively inexpensive way to try a vast range of there stuff. It works out at about €65 including postage. If there's other things you want to order its free international postage on orders over $125.

The Ciate advent calendar is gorgeous and I highly recommend- much happier with this one than the Benefit offering.

If you're curious, here's a link to pics of the polishes included:

    http://totalmakeupaddict.blogspot.ie/2013/11/ciate-mini-mani-month-advent-calendar.html

I got mine from BeautyEmporium.ie for €49.95 including postage- great price considering you get so many polishes and a full size surprise!

I would have loved the Ciate one. I love nail polish, but I wouldn't get enough use from it as I'm not allowed to wear nail polish in work.

My You Beauty calendar arrived today :) I'm thrilled with it already and I haven't even opened a door yet! It's way bigger than I expected. It comes with a little booklet that tells you what's in the calendar so discard that straight away if you don't want to ruin the surprise.

Oh you got that? I think it has to be one of the best out there!

The You Beauty one looks interesting - very tempted to get this!

Oh you should definitely go for it! I only read the reviews that didn't have spoilers in them but it does seem to be the best one. (Apart from Selfridges, but even if you could afford it, it can't be got!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,166 ✭✭✭carolinespring

I was given the Benefit one as a gift, so will be looking forward to the count down!!!

Just wondering does anyone know of anything along the same lines for men. Skin care etc. I would love to get him one but am to lazy to go about making it up.

rebelscorned I want the ciate one even more now after reading your link! :o and I really really really dont need any more nail polishes like really its outta hand already pardon the pun

I am not mad about the benefit one from pics as it seems to just be a load of sample sizes? I find some of those sizes in their products are just too tiny

I completely agree with you. The Benefit one seems to be very over hyped! I ordered one for myself as I'm a new convert to Benefit so it will allow me to try a decent range of the products without paying out for the full size ones. I don't think it's good value for anyone who already knows what they like in the range. I'm way more excited about my You Beauty one :D

I haven't seen a beauty one for men. There's a whiskey one but it's pretty expensive! Lego are also doing some that I'm sure most men would like playing with.

I am *really* tempted - the only thing that's putting me off though, is I think I have quite a few of the products already that I've gotten through various beauty boxes throughout the past year or so (She Said Beauty, Glossybox etc..) If it wasn't for that, I'd have it snapped up already!

It does look great though - enjoy it! :D

For those of you ordering from the Benefit American site, are you also going to have to pay the duties when it arrives in Ireland?? Therefore it may end up the same price as here??

Well firstly it can't be got here anymore so if you really want it the American site is the only option. And you might get caught for duty but it's a lottery really. I order a lot of stuff from outside the EU and I've never been caught for duty but I do know some people who have. Also if you do get caught you have to pay duty on the whole value including postage. So you're right. It won't be any cheaper for anyone who does get caught. I'm hoping my luck will continue!

My Benefit one arrived today. Didn't get caught for duty :D I have to say the build quality of the box is way more impressive than the You Beauty. Some of the doors are already starting to open on the You Beauty one and I haven't been poking at it! I'm not certain it will actually stay together until December 24th! That's not going to be a worry with the Benefit one.

On the other hand Benefit obviously put greater expensive into manufacturing the packaging which will probably be reflected in the value of what's inside.

Boyfriend came today with the Ciate calendar for me because he knew I was in a miserable mood after being made redundant a few days ago. Cheered me right up, mostly because it was so thoughtful :)

Trying to resist the temptation to open all of it, not sure if I'll make it!
