First time on job seekers allowance

Hi all i'm just out of college, and looking for work as a teacher and there really is nothing coming up! I applied for social welfare at the end of August and have been signing on since then. I'm still not in payment. I rang last week to see could they give me an idea of how much longer it would be but the lady said that they were waiting on a record update for me for 2010. I asked her what this meant and she just mentioned something about it being cos I went to college. I still don't understand and I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the matter for me? Scraping the barrell at this rate and she suggested I go to the social welfare officer in my community but I'd be really embarrassed and feel like I'm begging for money.

It is usual to apply for Supplementary Welfare Allowance while awaiting the processing of your Jobseekers application. Any allowance paid to you will be recouped out of your Jobseekers back payment.
