Moving to RHD country - concerns

So I should be buying a nice new motor 6 months after I move over (probably golf GTI).

I've had manuals and autos and I feel like getting a manual again. I have no problem driving in RHD countries with the seat on either side but one thing I've not done is drive a manual in a RHD car.

This struck me as a fundamental aspect of driving particularly if I'm going to get a performance car of sorts. Is this just another thing you get used to or would I be better with an auto. It could be trying to teach myself how to write with my left hand. Any ex pats?

    You'll be grand!
Ive spent the last 3 yrs alternating every second week between Ireland and France, I was driving rhd and lhd cars in both countries, no problems.

Same here, alternated a lot and not an issue.
Just take it handy the first while of course until the shifting becomes natural.

You'll find yourself reaching into the door pocket for the gearstick the first few times, but if you keep your head in the game, you'll adjust in no time. I still sometimes find myself trying to get in the wrong side. :)

Just follow the flow and think twice before entering a round about...
