Is working for a voluntary organisation just as impressive as a full-time 'proper' job to employers?

I went back to college, I don't work but volunteer. I was just wondering how employers would view that on my cv?

If what you're volunteering in is related to what you really want to do then I reckon it should definitely get you brownie points if you're called for interview. I would regard it as someone showing initiative, and someone who clearly wants to be in that profession. Therefore you will be someone who is enthusiastic, committed and hard working.

Even if it's got nothing to do with what you really want to do, it is still better than doing nothing, and you could always spin it as you 'wanting to give something back to the community' or other such.
