    Hi

Does anyone know if I book flights for my girlfriend and me using just my mileageplus number will I earn miles for both of our flights? Or will it only credit for mine?

I tried the United website but couldn't find anything on this.

    Thanks

Generally, only the person whos account it is, gets miles.

In this situation, to get miles for both flights, you would need to have an account for her flight to be credited to, where as the miles for your flight would be credited to your account.

Thanks. That's kind of what I thought.

It would have been handier to have all miles in one account. Oh well.

Even though you paid for both tickets, you can't redeem her air miles. They are only assigned to the person traveling. Your girl friend can transfer her air miles over to you if she wants. It's not cheap though. United charge $15 per 1000 miles that you want to transfer to someone else. There is also a $30 processing fee.

You need a minimum of 25,000 miles to get a free domestic flight within the US using air miles. If someone was transferring even half that over to you, they'd have to pay over $200 in fees. Hard to see how it would ever be worth it, considering how cheap domestic travel is within the US.

Thanks. Yeah, I knew about the transfer costs. That's why I was hoping I could claim for both on mine!

On a tangential note, joining Aegean's 'Miles & Bonus' will get you Star Alliance Gold after only 20,000 miles, with no need for annual re-qualification (as the card's valid for 3 years). As things currently stand, all you need do to retain status indefinitely is credit one flight to Aegean every 36 months.

Another beneficial quirk is that you gain access to United lounges on US domestic itineraries, whereas those attaining *A Gold via United's own FFP cannot.
