Hi, I have bought a new car and the registration cert arrived today, the car wasnt taxed for the last few months but I have to pay the tax from October (1st day of the month in which I bought it). My question is what documents to I need to bring to the tax office (insurance cert, registration cert, nct cert etc...). Also can I do this in any way without actually calling to the tax office as this is proving difficult to get the time to do it with getting off work for a few hours!

Go to the link below and enter all the details exactly from your log book and put in an email / mobile phone number to get sent a PIN code so you can renew online. You will get email PIN's from then on after that so you'll never need to go to the tax office at all.

You can do it online, when you go to motortax site you can retrieve the pin code for your car then log in and pay.

Thanks got that done now - didnt realise I could do that for first time taxing. Saves me a trip when I'm busy plus have the printout now if stopped (tax was out by over a year, previous owner never taxed it) and hopefully car won't be seized!
