    Aka. Japanese/US import plate?

From a purely aesthetic point of view I prefer this plate. I feel it's easier on the eyes. All the online number plate places market this plate as a road legal plate.

However looking at the statue book and revenue's site it would appear not. At least to me anyway. (http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/vrt/leaflets/format-vehicle-registration-plates.html)

Would anyone know of authoritative info online that would support this being a legal plate?

    It's not legal.

In saying that, I've been running one on the front of my car (complete with county name as gaeilge) and have never had an issue and it's worked (unfortunately) with every toll I've come across.

The NCT might have an issue with it, but then again they might not (I got through two tests and three retests with my old plates before they infomed me that the numbers were too small).

    Was thinking these

Font looks right, not looking to get pressed ones, just a bit difficult to find a good image online

Not illegal if that's the largest size that can be fitted, however if your car can accommodate either of the standard sizes you must use those.

    20. In the case of a vehicle which is provided with an indented space to accommodate a registration plate and the size of the space is such that it can accommodate neither a plate of the dimensions prescribed in paragraph 16 (a) of this Schedule nor a plate of the dimensions prescribed in paragraph 17 (a) of this Schedule, the dimensions prescribed in paragraphs 5, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16 or 17 of this Schedule may be reduced provided that the dimensions as so reduced comply as nearly as possible with the dimensions so prescribed.

those ones are perfectly fine, notice all the letters are the same size.

My car actually has _no_ space allocated for the number plate. As standard the number plate is wedged on in a botch job kind of fashion. I found this online though and I want to use the same kit on mine but I would need the Jap size plate for it to work.

Looks like we are all good! :)

It would only be an issue really for the NCT anyway (unless it looks out of place enough to draw attention from the Gardai, which is very unlikely), so could you get regulation plates made up to be fitted for the hour of the test if needs be? Thats what I have done with my car.

My car passed the NCT with them twice now (305x155mm), also been on the car 2 years and never had any gardai attention etc.

if fact the ones in that photo are very nearly my registration number :pac:
