Roma going through Bins in Dublin

I discovered a Roma man rummaging through my bins this morning, and all the other bins on the road in the Ranelagh/Rathmines area. I took a photo of him and went into the guards on my way to work to complain

I have never seen this before, is this common in Dublin?

    It's bin done before.

Did they refuse to do anything?

He is either hungry or is fed up being Romanian and is looking for a new identity.

    There's two sides to this.

One is: That poor man, having to scrummage through bins to survive!

Two is: Make sure your credit card bills/bank receipts are destroyed before they go into the bin.

Whichever is the truth is up to you :)

Actually I just put about 100 pages of old bills etc. into my green bin, after soaking them in water for 24hrs and ripping them into pieces before putting them in the bin. It is black bin day though so he was looking through the actual rubbish bin, thankfully, but still worried :(

He's looking for something he can take a pic of and stick it up on "You Laugh you lose".
Peeps will do anything for a few thumbs up these days.

Since it obviously enabled you to identify him so easily, the question is. Why did he have his passport with him while engaging in such activities?

I'd say a fair few people just throw everything into the black bin, or else would put bills in the black bin to make them a little harder to find. Good shout on the soaking, I'll have to start doing that myself!

Maybe he was in a Romania jersey and driving a Dacia.

Maybe he was checking the bins to make sure people split all the recyclables?

Not trying to be smart here, but what has you worried?

I live in Rathmines and they go through the big bin at the end of the car park of my apartment building. Normally on a Saturday or Sunday. I've seen them remove a lot of clothes over the last few months. Good luck to them, I say.

I had students knocking over my bins the other night. Unfortunately, for one of them the waste bin was full of animal faeces from my pets which they got covered in when they tipped it over.

When I caught them I also made them pick it all up with their bare hands and told them afterwards that they were handling rat shìt :pac:

I've seen Roma doing this in other countries. They're just looking for stuff that they can use for whatever purpose. They are very resourceful that way.

I've seen massive Roma camps and their "houses" are made up of stuff salvaged from skips and landfills.

Should have told them you couldn't use the toilet during the water restrictions.

They're going to have to learn to stop rommaging through other peoples bins.

yeah right, they would never be looking for any old bank statements \ driving license info \ PPS number

just the modern day equivalent Rag and bone men, they are just misunderstood :pac:

This is why I burn my rubbish in the back field and dump things I can't burn in the bog. Never see the Romas on my bog.

They usually have a special stick with a hook at the end of it for reaching the bottom of big containers and also have a little cart loaded with stuff they've found.

But believe what you want to believe.

    He was clearly Roma.

What would his passport tell you exactly?

Maybe you should ask in the Dublin forum.
