Hi Just looking for advice on installing a power shower over my bath (upstairs bathroom) One plumber I spoke to does not reccomend it, says we would be looking at leaks a couple of years down the line. He mentioned another type of pump that attaches to a mixer tap and pumps water stronger, out but not as high pressure as a power shower, he couldn't remember the name of it, anyone know what product he is talking about? would any plumber here agree with his advice not to go with a power shower? We really don't want an electric shower as we have constant hot water with our gas central heating and dont need the extra cost of electric, and also I never found them much good in terms of pressure compared to a power shower. But we need some improvement on our current situation which is just the shower from the mixer taps. TIA

I did some major upgrades to my ensuite shower and bathroom a few years ago. I installed a 300 litre tank, with Solar panels, and I put a 2 bar pump in the hotpress. I installed a thermostatic mixer in the ensuite and it is the dogs bo**ox when it comes to showerinf experience. No longer have to wear ear-plugs in the shower, or 'run around to get wet'.

I also fitted a shower bath in the bathroom, with a shower panel and an identical thermostatic mixer. BUT there is one major flaw with it, the pump is so powerful that it is likely to blow water over the top of the shower panel, or out underneath the shower panel if the panel is not set correctly on the lip of the bath. My son 6' 3" tall and I dread it everytime I see him heading in there for a shower (and I have the stains on the ceoiling to prove it).

So I can see wher your plumber is coming from. The more powerful the pump, the more likely it is to find a leak source.
