well wasnt thinking too much about size Bizzum but ya more calving ease and maternal, have cf51 cow, her first calf was off my old part bull, this time round she is in calf to my own char, he is very easy calving so will maybe give her pirate next time round, her mother is a very big MIX cow, i gave her ERE last spring as I couldnt get her to keep to char ai, she had a whopper of a bull there last week, had a nice pull with him, she did in some joint (stifle??) in her foot there a few mths back and i thought that would be it for her but she seems to be moving fairly freely, not in pain so thinking of maybe keeping her on. seems to have been a few Pirate bulls in last weekend sale in Tullamore, might be a swing back to calving ease after all the cottage dev bulls

Jaysus, the ERE off the Ch could be a smasher.
A bit like myself, you're not afraid to mix it up a bit.
Pirate isn't a bull I've used much, he's popular though. Might chance a Ch bull soon on one or two of the girls. I think I have a few straws of Excellent to use up.

well she doesnt look milky really but she reared a nice heifer this year and her mother has plenty of milk so i think she will be good enough cow, she is lovely and quiet too and i remember as a calf she was a bit of a lunatic

That's the acid test. If the calf is well reared and decent quality that's all ya want.

You could try Nelson (NEX) in Munster there may be a couple of him left, if you are looking for females.
You wont go wrong with Pirate for Bulls, heifers are stylist but may come back a bit in milk. If you really wanted to go for a female try the Society site.

I know of CF52 twin females one has loads of milk and the other wouldnt wet your tea??

is there any difference between, munster, national breeding centre and progressive, are they all branches of the same tree?

Yeah the one crowd I'd say, munster and pg under NCBC umbrella I think

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,083 ✭✭✭bogman_bass

NCBC is a joint venture between Munster and PG

Basically NCBC own the bulls and Munster and PG sell the straws

Vander have you every tried Roundhill Doc from Dovea not sure what he is like myself but he did win a top maternal award from icbf (I think). There is also a "Sire Directory" available for Pedigree breeders from the Char office.

If I were you I'd have to be ordering a few straws of Repair (REP). The best all rounder ch sire. And if she comes heifer she'll make an excellent breeder.
