Getting a copy of a past tax return

    I am a sole trader...

I used to file my own return (Form 11) myself, by post..
so keeping a copy for my records simply meant photocopying it....

But now I use an accountant AND he also files it online
he tells me he cannot give me a copy of what he submitted because it isin't in the format of a 20 page printable PDF file...

I have logged into my own ROS.ie account for "Income tax" and I have no way of seeing what my accountant submitted, surely I am entitled to see a copy of my own return?

    help!! please!

ROS returns don't look like a normal tax return, but they can certainly be printed. There's a space on it for the taxpayer to sign it, so that the tax practitioner has something on file to show that the return has been approved by the taxpayer.

What Nompere said. Your accountant can go to the archive section of his ROS inbox to print out the return. Does he/she not get you to sign you tax return though? If you have no joy, you can ring the self-assessment section of your local Revenue branch and they can print out the filed return and post to you.

The only thing I sign for my accountant is

    a document she makes called:

"NAME SURNAME: Report and Financials Statements for the y/e 31 Dec 2012""

That must go in her filing cabinet, and whatever the revenue get is "signed" (electronically) by my accountant only, and not me

It's a brave accountant who doesn't get the client to sign something - in my case it's almost always the ROS return - so that there's some evidence that the client has approved the return. I always explain to clients that it's the difference between them going to Mountjoy - or me!

I agree you have a right to see your tax return and your accountant should be getting you to sign it.

This was doing my head in as well :-)

Just discovered how to get copy of OLD F11 (income tax) return

Log in to ROS, go to REVENUE RECORD then search by Document Type = INCOME TAX, then click Include Archive and eh presto ALL F11 returns and PAYMENTS are displayed on a list, click on one and you get the FULL F11 return made in 2012 2011 etc

The displayed F11, it's in a pop-up window so you have to allow pop-ups, anyways the displayed F11 is printable just hit CTRL-P (like in the good ol' days) if your accountant wants to email it to you s/he should install something like Bullzip. Bullzip is a program that creates a virtual PDF printer, when you print to the Bullzip printer you end up with a PDF file on your hard disk which can be emailed or printed or indeed both :)
