It two weeks since DCM and I’m sure I’m not the only one having withdrawal symptoms, the Marathon Blues.
After months of been consumed with the goal, it’s all over.
    It’s like the anti-climax after xmas when you’re a kid. So moving on;

How many weeks should one take off?

    Where to go from here?
i'd like to get my 5k/10k times down.

How does one structure your running year.

i've entered Berlin so hope to start in another marathon training cycle in Mid May. Up till then, concentrate on getting faster first?

It's only been one week since DCM (you really partied it up, didn't you?!). I'm in the same boat. Plan is to stick to 5k/10k for a few months, while I figure out what I want to be, when I grow up. I'm putting the running shoes back on today for the first time since the marathon. Plan is just to run easy this week, and then make a start on 5k-15k training next week, with one eye on the county senior/masters cross country.

yeah i have told anyone that would happily listen to me that, i would be taking a break until xmas. most of these promises where made when i was trying to get time for the marathon training;)
already i'm feeling the need to move onto the next goal..

might give jack D's 10k another bash.

Have had my week off, was planning on getting a 7-8 mile run in on Sat morning, but that didn't work out because
    a) it was minging outside
    b) knee was still slightly sore after the DCM
    c) have been up at 6 almost every Sat morning since May training for Dublin and about time I took one off anyway
    d) my bed was nice and warm.

Back to the grindstone tonight though with a cobweb shaking 10K, and then full training for Clonakilty resumes as normal. :)

In same boat here , 3 marathons done in 12 months , 4:15, 3:43, 3:28. not sure what to do now as another spring one could be pushing it! Where can you get this plan or do you need to buy the book?

good book, can be a bit technical but you can pick & choose what suits. i've yet to follow one of his plans though, next year:D

I'm in the same boat. Lacing up the shows again today. A week of easing back in to it, then focusing on shorter stuff for Dungarvan 10M in January, followed by a short marathon cycle for Paris.
Haven't constructed a training plan yet, should be some fun for the evenings this week.
All this free time is weird!

Cianc, you'll be starting training for Paris soon so, 1 Dec for an 18 week plan. might try to make dungarven myself.

I'm going to attempt to use a gym mid-week for a month or so, and lace up some trail shoes and get up into the hills at the weekends :) Looking forward to a change for a few weeks.. for the first time in a few years I've not committed to any long term plans.

Not quite, I don't think I could take another 18 week cycle again so soon :) probably go with something a bit truncated while making sure to keep mileage up before then. There's a few others around here aiming for Dungarvan (gavlor, ross runner, purceninho), should be good craic.

First run post DCM this afternoon, a nice easy-ish 9km. Two weeks of soft running to get me ready for couple o 1/2 marathons before xmas. Dont want to waste my fitness levels just yet. Plenty o time over xmas to do just that !

I got the blues as well. It's been a long year.

Going to do some proper aerobic base training (never truly did it before) with heart rate not going over 153bpm mixed with some swimming when the weather's poor. Just going to enjoy the unstructured training until the new year then P&D 55-70 for Cork City Marathon.

My left leg is still a tad stiff/sore from time to time when I stand up but once I get moving it's fine. Gonna run 8 or 10k tomorrow to see how I get on, can't get too complacent coming up to Christmas. This Art O'Neill training won't do itself.
