    Lads can anyone explain this CIDR Thing for heat detection to me. Saw it mentioned in another thread but no explanation.

    Its a little T shaped device, that you put infront of the cervix, it contains a drug which is released slowly over the space of afew days, that stops the release of hormones in the cow, when you pull it out then (after 6-10days), the cow releases a big flush of hormones, and will bring her in heat hopefully. Its not at all for heat detection as such, but can be used as an aid, you at least have a much narrower window when the cow should come in heat though.

    Thanks for that lads. I've a cow that has very short r silent heats. Last year I had to keep a very strong weanling bull with her to get him to pick it up for me.
