    Hi,

Have a 1999 3.0 litre diesel long wheel base Toyota landcruiser that just will not rev even when just running idle. Most you can get 2000 rpm. Any ideas what the problem could be?
    Thanks

Fuel feed from tank OK? Check flow. Teabag filter in tank feed can block.
Also check pipework in tank distributor, the lines can corrode.
Nothing under the pedal stopping it going to the floor?

Ya filter in the tank could be the trouble, if you open off the fuel line coming from the tank at the filter the diesel flowing back into the tank should knock some of the dirt (rust) off. This will only be a temporary fix, if it goes ok for maybe a day, then loses power again at least you'll know the tank has to be cleaned out. You get at it under the floor.

Another thing that can go is the diaphragm in the top of the filter bowl, scrappie should have one for about 20-30yoyo, the whole filter holder comes as one unit.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

check the MAF sensor - had similiar symptoms (on a defender Puma) was slow to rev, would be sluggish to drive etc.

HAd a similar issue a while back on an Isuzu, and it turned out to be the fuel system is supplied by the pump on the engine, there's no pump in the tank, and having taken the filter out of the lines to replace the fuel filter a few weeks earlier, it turned out that the clips holding the lines on to the filter body were no longer clamping the lines firmly, so it was drawing air through the connection.

Didn't affect starting, only running. Took a while to find, there was no indication that it was lack of fuel as such. Replaced the easy remove clips with some proper clamp hose clips, and it's been fine since.

Is it turbo? Might not be being boosted, another possible is that the exhaust is partly blocked, or a bypass valve is sticking open.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Looks like it might be a fuel/filter/pipe problem alright - it actually ran out of diesel during the week and when topped up again she ran much better so suspect it could be a dirty filter some where. Will investigate over the weekend. Thanks for all the replies.

There is a tiny gauze filter in the inlet of the Inj. pump as well.
I'd start at one point and work backwards/forwards to avoid missing anything along the way. Inj. pump-Bulkhead filter-tank filter Breather in fuel tank cap....
