    Hi,

This is probably a stupid question, but if I buy a PAYG mobile off Meteor will I have to be with them for a certain time or have to spend a certain amount of credit before I can use the phone with another network?

Typically for PAYG you will have to spend a set amount of money before they will give you the unlock code, with billpay it's time based. The alternative is to buy a SIM-free phone (you own it outright from day one but it will cost more) and then buy a 'SIM only' package which will involve buying a SIM card in a square plastic envelope the size of a CD, this will contain the phone number and setup instructions. There will be some credit included in the price and more added when you register.

You can buy a SIM-free phone from the usual supects: www.amazon.co.uk www.expansys.ie and most of the mobile shops sell them but expect to get the hard sell for a subsidized model.

    €130 iirc

Are you looking for a certain phone op?
Or what phone are you trying to unlock?

If you buy a mobile phone in store, you can often get the phone unlocked in a high street store. Depending on your location, you can find many phone retailers for mobile accessory shops that would be able to unlock your device for a small charge, typically €10-€15, a far amount cheaper than the network themselves. It would mean that you do not need to top up in excess of €200-€300.

3 now have the 925 and 1020 in the lumia range if thats any use to you.

If their is another lumia model in mind, post and you maybe be able to get in simfree for a reasonable price save you a lot of hassle
