Dreamcast, HD TV & RF Cable?

    Hi guys,

Just got a dreamcast again the other day and wanted to hook up to my 26" HD screen. Now I know you'll say get new cables, and I've ordered a VGA cable off ebay, but for the next few days till I get that, I'm trying to get my dreamcast hooked up to the screen.

I have gotten my nintendo consoles (NES, SNES and N64) working through the RF cable in the past which tuned fine, but I've tried tuning the dreamcast on both I and G switches, which is plugged into the ariel at the back of my screen (it's an older HD one, so still has RF inputs).

Anyone have any ideas how to get this working? I don't mind waiting a few days till the lead comes through, but would like to start playing MSR sooner rather than later.

    Thanks!

Just seriously don't bother. RF cables look so god awful there's no point even using them.

I don't mind things looking awful while I wait for the VGA cable to arrive in the post, but just looking for some help to tide me over in the meantime. nothing worse than having a console sitting there all shiny and nice, but not being able to use it!

It should just work like any other RF adaptor. PAL I is more likely to work than G (we used PAL I in this country until last year), and it's probably UHF channel 36 like most others. You're more likely to have problems with 60 Hz mode in games with RF than anything else.

Also, not all games work with the VGA adaptors. I'm sure there's compatibility lists out there if you're unsure. I'd recommend getting an RGB SCART lead if there are any non-VGA games you care about, as it will improve picture quality significantly. I got an official Sega boxed SCART cabled for £5 on eBay in 2008 - unfortunately the prices are crazy now for the legit stuff :(
