The father and another chap I spoke too said there very heavy on petrol have any of you driven then if so how do you find them on fuel ? I drove one a while back(diesel) and it was lovely to be in so thats why im thinking about it. Will be for 80% town driving and a the odd motorway run.

Theres a very small test base of cars on there, most having one car per avg mpg rating(in my case) hardly anything concrete

    mine does 30mpg .... it's a 2.5 V6 and I think that's pretty good especially as I drive it on quite a bit.

I've had 2002 mondeo 1.8 (so the same model and engine as yours).

AFAIR fuel consumption was something like that:

Country road in the west of Ireland - about 8 l/100km.
City driving in winter conditions (temperatures of -5 to -20) - 11 l/100km.
    Motorway cruising at up to 120 - 130km/h - 7.5 l/100km.
    Motorway crusing at 200km/h - 16 l/100km

05 for 2500 k seems good value but be wary of done deal as I've tried 2 buy from 2 different seperate sellers before on DD and 1 seller would not give me any info i asked 4 on the car , reg no , no of owners , condition etc and then made excuses why he couldn't meet me and the 2nd displayed the reg and i got the car checked on cartell and i found out the car had been used as a taxi and had been involved in an accident but the owner was staying quiet on both ?s after I quizzed him about same , long story short do you're homework as it a buyers market these days because you won't get you're money back when it handed over .

Have a 1.8 (110ps). I get up to 40mpg on the motorway over a 40km distance. 28mpg in heavy traffic. The one you are looking at will be capable of the same but of course each individual car will differ slightly.

I filled up to the brim. Traveled for about 1.5h at around 200km/h. Done 300km distance. Filled up again, and after calculating consumption came at about 16 l/100km.

1.8 s can burn oil and fail NCT emissions, very common , don't buy one with short NCT .

    Indeed.
Mine consumed about 1 litre of oil per 1000km on average everyday use.
I had it for one year, and travelled about 30k kilometres in it.
During that time coolant plastic conatiner bottle cracked and spilled coolant.
Accelerator cable snapped once leaving me nearly immobilised at middle of the night in middle of nowhere.
Alternator belt tensioner starter ticking really loud and needed replacement.
Stereo stopped receiving any radio signal.
    Rear wiper stopped working.
Glovebox closing mechanism snapped leaving glovebox permanently closed, and I needed to open it using "brute force" method.
Engine started misfiring during acceleration. I changed ignition wires, which helped for 2 months and then symptoms returned.
Drivers seat lubmar support mechanisms broke down.
Handbrake couldn't be used in frosts as it always froze down completely and rear wheels wouldn't move.

It was by far my worst car when it comes to reliablity, but I'd rather say it was more due to how it was treated by previous owners. I just bought it cheap.
On the other hand it was very comfortable and nice handling car.

I had one I loved it i never got an ounce of bother with it. It's definitely a car I would buy again.

    Generally yes.
I might have slowed down few times on shaper bends or when exiting or joining motorways.
That was the quickest 300km I ever travelled.

I assume this wasn't on Irish roads.

    Of course not.
I don't even think there is any 300km stretch of motorway in Ireland.
    It was here
