I am pretty clueless about stuff like this but was thinking of getting a subscription for my husband. Originally I was thinking of getting the 4ife smartstick (have read good and bad about this ) or appleTV? I have a feeling he wont be interested in buying films on the appletv but we do have a Iphone's that we could work with this.

We do have a Wii that we would watch it on - does it work well on this? I was more thinking of something that I could give him for xmas and I am not sure a subscription would cut it, I would rather hand him a device he could play with iykwim.

    Thanks

I was just looking at the sony smart blueray and DVD player - would that be any good? Its €69.99 in Currys.

With the 4ife he would be able to play angry birds etc on the tv but I have heard the quality is not great?

I got a component(5 wires) cable for the wii and netflix.
It makes the picture much sharper.

I think it was about a tenner on ebay.

There are older Sony Blu-Ray players still on the market that do not support Netflix and as PC World/Currys (same company) are experts at shifting obsolete older stock, I'd be very careful there. Quote the model number and I can check it for you.

    Hi Bessed

I would say go with the Apple TV as you can then stream movies/tv series from various sites legally. No need to buy them or rent them.

Its a horrific price for what it is. You can just use a laptop and a share HDMI cable to connect to the TV

i got the apple tv and its great - laptop was too old and doesnt have a hdmi output - like it cos i can play my music and rent movies from itunes as well as netflix. it had a few updates since i got it and each time has had a couple of new channels. very easy to set up and navigate. maybe its expensive but im very happy with it.

Thanks. I think I will go with the Apple TV. It's a better Xmas present than handing him a cable. I hate having the laptop connected to the tv. I think he'll get get more out if the app games etc.

if you're a bit clueless (like me), its great - just attach it to the tv via hdmi, plug it and away you go. you'll need an itunes subscription to make the most of it and make sure you have a hdmi cable - you can buy them cheap enough - i got one for €9 in argos - very short but grand for the apple tv.

Buy it from Amazon, it will cost about €98 on your credit card instead of €109 in the local shops, Amazon also sell cheap HDMI cables.

Laptop, charger, clutter, no R/C. No comparison.

I agree. Out laptop wouldn't be the best and the battery has packed in. I also hate the clutter of connecting the laptop to the tv.
