Hi, I just turned my laptop on and got the following message:

" The system has detected that a cooling fan is not operating correctly.
Continued operation is not recommended and may cause unpredictable behavior that could result in random shutdown, data loss or possible system damage. The system will shut down in 15 seconds. To prevent shutdown and continue operation, press the Enter key now.
    System Fan (90b)"

Can I fix this myself or is it best to leave it into a PC repair shop?

Fan isnt spinning up. First thing blow some air through there(personally I say hoover but some argue that that is dangerous) and see if its not clogged with dust.

Thanks. Considered this myself! I don't need to take the computer apart for that do I!?

    Try it from outside first.

tried,no success. No fan to be heard at all so I've switched it off for the night. I assume if I use it for lengthy periods it will overheat and damage the laptop?

I could unscrew it and Hoover inside perhaps?

And if that doesn't work then repair place?

Yeah, probably needs a new fan then.

I changed a fan on a HP G60 a while back, it needs complete disassembly to get to it.

Okay thanks. PC shop it is so! Hoping it won't be too expensive. I've never had to get a laptop repaired before!
