They're mad into "In-game purchasing" nowadays. What happened to "in-gameshop purchasing", where you bought the game in a shop and you went home, updated it and played it.

I blame the accountants :D, there are far too many accountants getting jobs high up the corporate ladder in these companies. Accountants should be there to crunch numbers and never have a say or comment with regards to game development or design.

Sure it started with the sims and selling the constant **** micro expansion packs. Then they started encroaching into the game, I for one have never done a micro-transaction for a game and never will.

That option stopped turning a profit.

Heh. Nah, the issue was ever inflating budgets for AAA titles and a stagnant market that was sensitive to price increases. Games were being developed at a cost which made a reasonable profit only if it was the next CoD, the thing is that doesn't happen very often so we were seeing a small handful of titles subsidising stupidly expensive failures. This seems to be slowly changing back, we're no longer seeing "how much this game cost" being trumpeted as much in the gaming press whereas before it was a form of e-peen measuring contest.

It was ****. Basically a reskinned Starcraft that lacked any of the charm of Starcraft.

Apparently they're assigning a new studio to redevelop the game.

Man, EA really know how to F**K a game/genre/series.
When are they get involved in Elder Scrolls 6?
I hear Ubisoft have been doing some great things? They must be due for an EA takeover soon ;)

I'm a massive cnc fan but the last few years - since red alert 3 and the awful recent Tiberium games ugh

Shame on you EA - shame on you.

    i read that yesterday actually!

CnC main focus should be base building resource expansion and single player.
Multi player DLC ****e can be added in the years after its initial release
