2 extra digits on Chassis number

Just went to have my car NCT'd and they refused to do it for me on the basis that my chassis number and VIN on logbook do not match exactly

they are not completely different, but there are 2 extra letters at the end of the number under the bonnet

Basically the numbers match except "BV" is at the end of the VIN under the bonnet but not on the Cert

Will I have further trouble with this? Is it just a case of there being an admin error in Shannon? The car was NCT'd 2 years ago no problem

cheers in advance for any advice

How many letters/digits appear on logbook?

    How many in engine compartment?

Entire VIN must contain 17 of them.

Not if its a Japanese car, they use around 13 and don't follow international VIN format.

Think the OPs car is a 307 though.

We're talking about VIN here, at least according to OP's post (yes, alright, mentioned both VIN and chassis no. there). :o

And I know what's under JDM bonnet. ;)

Our W126 had a similar issue. One digit short on the brown book. A f*ck up from whoever filled in the details.

It will need to go to a dealer to verify the numbers and inspected by the tax office

i'm having a similar issue. Went to have my car NCT'd, was told that there was an issue with my chassis number (didn't match my log book)

They asked if id ever had it NCT'd before (which I did and have old cert and receipt as proof from 2 years ago).

This is the annoying part though. My log book only has a 5 digit VIN.

The plate under the bonnet shows the real 17 digit VIN and its also under the windscreen. Neither of these are of any use for the NCT though

They directed me to what is stamped on the chassis and there are extra letters stamped on the chassis. Mainly the letter "V". there are 3 extra V's to be precise. I've had the car looked at and its all above board (I bought the car second hand, there was one previous owner who is named on the Cert as such).

I've also called the garage. The car is an import from the North, background checks all checked out, date it was registered in Ireland etc... VRT in shannon also have record of it.

But my issue is this number on the chassis. Its not different just some extra V's. the VIN is in 2 lines 8 numbers/letter with v's either side and the line below has 9 numbers with a V at the end. These 3 V's do not appear anywhere else.

Basically the car is in limbo, NCT is up at end of month they directed me to Shannon to have Reg Cert changed, i've contacted VRT in Rosslare who have directed me to my local motor tax office, MTO have directed me to my local Garda station to get someone to verify it. Called the Garda station who informed me that they have no facility to check this.

Ive had numerous mechanics check it out and they all say its clearly an error as the car checks out, zero sign of anything dodgy.

Where do I go from here? Who can carry out an inspection on the vehicle for me in order to get it to the NCT?
