Let the rams out mid October.didnt bother raddling rams for first cycle but watched rams and were all active...going to raddle with light colour now for repeats....from initial put in date usually count on 17 days before swap or raddle change,is that what others do if raddling?

This year changed raddle on day 18 and noticed the first ewe that had been marked on first cycle was remarked with same colour. Only used 2 colours as all ewes were marked at least once over 2 cycles. Going to take harness off ram in another week or so anyway.

Started out with yellow last Friday, changed to orange yesterday, jebus but tis messy stuff. Poor ram looks like he hopped into a pot of liquid crayola :pac:

Let my new Charolais ram lamb out today. Bought him at the national sheep sale in blessington a few weeks ago. He didn't need to be shown what to do anyway.

I put on a couple of the long examination gloves when I'm putting raddle on the ram , that way i can pick up a handful of the mixture and rub it onto him while he's standing and don't have to turn him up

Yeah I'm doing the same. He still seems to get it all over himself.

Using harnesses here for for the first time in a long while, find it handier than having to top up the raddle

Doing similar here, got rams fertility checked before letting out, didn't bother raddling them on first cycle and not going to on second cycle either.
Will watch them closely on second cycle to see of there are many repeats and then after second cycle will switch the rams around and raddle them.Usually raddle them each year but fertility test gives peace of mind that they are ok and it's less disturbance on the ewes for the period of time.

The main reason I raddle the rams is not to see if there fertile but to see what order the ewes lamb in

This is first year experimenting with not annoying ewes by putting in rams to raddle them....meant to be a good idea...time will tell, scan ewes so know then order of ewes lambing.

I find yellow raddle useless. Its completely rubbed off at lambing time.

This year i haven't changed the raddle at all as i don't want to disturb them.

Just one with a harness with the ewe lambs as i dont want to be feeding dry hoggets a load of meal at lambing time.
Auld fella disagrees with harness completely as we had one years ago that developed an lump on his brisket that became infected and died. I'm hoping it was just badly fitted but I agree that they cant be comfortable for a ram to lie on.

Think I'll just use yellow and orange raddle 17 days apart next year. Ewes are like something out of the circus at the moment, and I'm not going to mention the poor ram lol.
