Rads too hot

I have a question, my radiators are too hot.

Thermostat on the boiler is set to 65, wall thermostat is set to 17, when I try turn TRVs down even one setting the rads dont seem to heat up much at all. Hot water thermostat on the hot tank is also set to 65.

Any ideas how to regulate this so the radiators are not scalding to the touch

65o is hot to the touch, but your room temperature is dependent on your TRV, manually adjusting it will make it either come on or off, it is designed to sense room temperature and then slowly shut down accordingly, once the room reaches temp it will turn off, turning down the boiler thermostat will prevent the radiator from bringing the room to the TRV's setting, if anything you could turn the boiler stat up to 70/75o.

Presuming rad size is correct for room.

Not sure if I can identify the problem 100% but:

    1. I assume the room with the thermostat does NOT have a TRV.

    2. 17 degrees is very low, so if the room temp is above 17 degrees then the radiators should not be hot (as the system should not be calling for heat).

Not sure how your system is set up, but your zone valve could be either stuck open (and the limit switch is switching on the boiler) or the limit switch could be knackered and stuck closed (thus keeping the boiler on).

So first up I would check if the zone valve is opening and closing as you turn on and off the controller, and turning up and down the thermostat.

The room thermostat should be the final arbitrator, it should have the highest setting of all. TRVs are very sensitive and only work properly, in my opinion, when the Boiler is modulating continuously. You might also check that the actuators are attached correctly to the valves, unscrew the actuator to its max setting, normally "5", then unscrew the knurled nut and remove the actuator, smear a touch of vaseline on the threads of the valve and then tighten the nut firmly by hand, you can then set the actuator wherever you like. The actuators/valve spindle only move about 5 MM so its important that the actuator is fitted properly. My TRV settings are between 1.5 and 3.0, depending in which room they are installed and work quite well but take a little time to settle down.
