    Hi,

I am a third year student. One of my modules is a research/technical project combined.

I had an idea for the technical side: Creating and Configuring an IPSEC site to site VPN using gns3.

What you guys think of that for a technical project?

For the research side i have to have a statement with sub statements.

One of the sub statements could be what are the advantages of IPSEC to a large organization.

This is where i draw a blank. So i am asking if anyone has any expertise in this area could they maybe help me with this.

Maybe give me some pointers or suggest areas for research.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Third year student of what?

Im not sure if implementing a reasonably widely used mature system would be sufficient for a research project.

I would imagine they want you to demonstrate the skills of a researcher, e.g.

    Pick a topic
    Document your work
    Come to a conclusion
    Write a paper

It's maybe not so much what you study but a demonstration of your methodology. Also keep in mind next year and your thesis(Assuming its a four year course). If you can lay some of the ground work for your thesis now, it shows that you are thinking ahead.

Big Data is all the rage right now. Would you consider something to do with that?

Sorry a student of I.T Admin. I wanted to look into the area of network security. Was just reading about IPSEC and found it interesting.

Would you have any suggestions in this area?

Network security is a big area. What skills / knowledge do you have already?

Currently teaching us how to configure switches vlan, spanning tree, trunking and so on. Will be leading into IPSEC next semester.
