    The current issue with water supply to Dublin got me wondering, what was there before the dam was built in 1939.
    The OSI map gives an excellent historical map that you can overlay current map to see the effect of the dam, the roads, buildings and farms that were swallowed up.

    A friend of mine is planning to do her thesis on Ballinahown, which is a village that was submerged under the lake. You might find some info here
