I'm thinking of getting implants, and require augmentation using a bovine material.

Have read a few stories on the web about people developing nasty diseases (eg. neck cancer) a couple of years after having this process done, and also cases like this:-

Am I worrying about nothing, or should I be concerned?

Nothing to worry about, xenografts have been around for 40 years and have excellent clinical safety. You will read all sorts of stuff on the internet and if your googling about risks your usually worried about it and susceptible to scaremongering. There is a lot of post hoc fallacy on the go here. Bone grafting is so common these days that people will have developed all sorts of conditions afterward, doesn't mean it was caused by it.

Your worrying about nothing, if in doubt ask your dental implant dentist
