Chances for a Business Graduate in Admin/Fund Admin/Data Entry

    Hi Guys,

My main question is: What kind of chance would a recent Business graduate stand in gaining an Admin, Fund Admin, Pension Admin or Data Entry role in a company?

    Background Info:

I started a thread in AH asking for suggestions for entry level office type jobs. I graduate next year and will need a basic enough job (other than my current retail existence which I've grown tired of these past few years). I intend to save up some cash to start a small business so only need a job for a year or so.

This is why I'm not doing the graduate programs.

I expect to graduate with a 2.1 (possibly a 1,1) BA in Business. In a previous job in retail, part of my responsibilities was bookkeeping, dealing with invoices, suppliers and bank lodgements. That's all the 'office' type experience I have.

I'll have good review from my previous employer. I worked two years and was never late, never took a single sick day, regularly covered for others, was a trusted key holder and was always taking on extra responsibilities (such as admin - my title was just a sales assistant).

    A few more specific questions:

    1. One or two of these admin jobs have phrases like "Bubbly personality required" etc... Now, maybe I'm being paranoid here, and I truly don't want to offend anyone here with this: But are they asking me not to apply based on the fact that I'm male? It just seems odd to use colloquial phrases such as this which, when I've heard them, are usually describing women. I don't think I've ever heard a man describe himself as having a 'bubbly personality'. Surely we're beyond the days of stereotypical gender roles in the office??

    2. The salary for these types of positions seems to be around 22k-25k. For a single person with no kids etc.., how much of that would be going to the tax man? I've never earned so much as I only work part-time and only really pay USC at the minute. :o

    3. What are these roles like? I'm not expecting anything glamorous. Like I said, I just want a job I can stick out for a year to save up some cash? Day-to-day, will I want to burn down the building? :o

    4. In your experience, do graduates get these kinds of roles?

    Cheers,
    Dean :)

EDIT: I JUST REALISED I POSTED THIS IN WORK PROBLEMS! CRAP! CAN A MOD MOVE THIS TO WORK & JOBS? SORRY! :o
